Erwin Mürner moves between reality and whimsical vision. He is a filmmaker, ufologist, fantasist and dreamer at the same time. At exclusive film evenings, the Winterthur native shares his convictions with fellow retirees. But his actions and thoughts are not only met with enthusiastic listeners, but often also with incomprehension and fierce skepticism from the public. But Erwin Mürner persistently continues on his path.
He protects himself against mistrust and criticism by retreating into his own universe. His apartment symbolizes this shielding from the outside world. Inside his four walls he lives out his fantasies with heart and soul.
No matter how bizarre Erwin Mürner’s world of thought may be: aren’t one’s own obsessions – no matter how absurd – meaningful? Aren’t they an impetus and offer us opportunities to withdraw into our own worlds of thought and to imagine counter-models to our everyday reality? And isn’t there a little “Mürner” in each of us?
